LAWRENCE WRIGHT

Lawrence William Wright passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Saturday January 10th 2004 after a short stay at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

Born in Kamloops in 1914, Laurie and his parents moved to Vernon in the spring of 1918. After high school, he travelled to Los Angeles where he attended the National Radio School. Once back in Vernon he worked for awhile at Vernon Hardware as the electrical appliance and radio repairman. He served in the Canadian Army from 1942 – 1946 as a sergeant in the 11th Area Signal Corps in Victoria.

After leaving the service, Laurie and Bert Thorburn founded Wright and Thorburn Radio Ltd. which is still in business to this day. Part of his work involved being the Chief Engineer at CJIB.

Laurie was an original member of the North Okanagan Community Concert Assoc. and was an avid Ham Radio operator (VE7E0). He belonged to the Friends of History and attended regularly. He was a friend of Bill W. for 28 years.

Laurie will be sadly missed by his wife Helen, daughter Barbara Carr (Glenn) of Lumby, son Gordon Wright of Vernon, daughter Janet Nelson (Fred) of Vernon and daughter Elaine Wright of Vernon. He has four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church on Saturday January 17th 2004 at 2 p.m.

Vernon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
