LESLIE LEON GRIFFITHS

MR. LESLIE LEON GRIFFITHS passed away in the Kelowna General Hospital on the evening of June 20th, 2005 at the age of 84 years. Les was born in Brooks, Alberta on January 5th, 1921, moving to Chilliwack, B.C. as a child and spending his teen years in Merritt, B.C. He served his country during World War II with the New Westminster Regiment, seeing action in France, Holland, North Africa and Italy. After his discharge from the Services, he came to Vernon where he met and married Evelyn, his wife of 58 years. Les worked 33 years for the City Of Vernon as an equipment operator, retiring in 1981. Thereafter, Les and Evelyn enjoyed 20 years of retirement in good health. They were always packing up the camper and boat for outings, especially fishing. Les love animals, especially his horses as he spent many years in the saddle! He was predeceased by his parents, Clem and Marcelle, his brothers; Pat, George and Roger, his sister; Yvonne, an infant daughter; Darlene and grandsons; Aaron, Ben and Aaron. Les is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn, son; Ken (Darcy) Griffiths, daughter; Doreen Blackwood, son; Bob Griffiths, all of Vernon, B.C., daughter; Cecilia (David) Tanner of Oliver, B.C., sisters; Gladys Fessenden of Vancouver, B.C., Margaret (Dale) Miller of Vernon, B.C., Shirley (Ken) Elliott of Montreal, Quebec and his grandchildren; Kaitlin, Scott and Jordy, Jamie, Shawn, Marlin and Brooke. The family is deeply grateful to our relatives, friends, neighbors and to Dr. Steve Friesen, Dr. Brian Chai, Dr. Edward Hardy, the nurses and staff of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Outpatient Dept. and the Emergency staff for all their compassion, caring and help during and after our father’s illnesses. Cremation preceded the Service which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Monday, June 27th, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. with Mr. Brian Jackson officiating.
