Mabel Skalazub passed away peacefully at the Gateby Intermediate Care Facility in Vernon, BC, on Sunday, November 10th, 2002 at the age of 98 years. Mabel was born on November 8th, 1904 in Foam Lake in what was then part of The North West Territories, now Saskatchewan. In 1927, she married Jack Skalazub, a widower with four children, they farmed on a homestead near Borden, Sask., where five more children were born. They then moved to Radisson in 1940. In 1955, Mabel and Jack moved to Vernon, B.C. Due to health reasons they moved to Maple Ridge, B.C. in 1976 and in 1989, Mabel moved back to Vernon. Mabel is survived by eight children, Ruby of Radisson, SK, Katie of Borden, SK, Olga of Port McNicoll, Ont., Edwin of Glenella, MB, Edward (Winnie) of Courtenay, BC, Esther (Rolf) of Sicamous, BC, Mary of Saskatoon, SK, Alice of Vernon, BC, twenty-two grandchildren, forty-eight great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Jack in 1977, an infant son Allan and three grandchildren. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 13th, 2002 at 2:00pm from the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home.
