Sister Paula of Our Lady of the Missions OCD
It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the death of Sr. Paula OCD, who passed to eternal life peacefully at the age of 92, on June 1, 2017, at the monastery of The Carmel of St. Joseph, Armstrong, BC. Sr. Paula was born in Melfort, SK on September 18, l924. In 1944 she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (RNDM), and taught children as a missionary Sister for many years, mostly in India and Bangladesh. She also taught at St. Thomas More College in Saskatoon. Desiring a more contemplative life she entered the Carmel of St. Joseph in St. Agatha, ON on January 8, l987 and made her Perpetual Profession on January 23, l992. In May of l993 she came to join the sisters in Armstrong, being a strong support for the newly founded monastery. She was a very devoted teacher and generous Sister.
Sr. Paula is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Margaret O’Flanagan, her big sister Nora and brother Thomas. Left to mourn are her younger sister Rosemaire and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vigil prayers will be held Friday June 9, 2017, at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be at the Monastery Chapel, Saturday June 10, 2017, at 10:30 am with Bishop Joseph Nguyen as celebrant.
