Margaret Romaine
July 2, 1937 - September 14, 2017
Margaret Romaine (nee Owen) passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017, in Vancouver, at the age of 80 years after a 17 year battle with early-onset dementia.
Predeceased by her husband, Patrick, in 2003, her son Owen (and Candice) in 2006, her brother John in 1932 and brother Bob in 2009.
Survived by her sons Glyn (Estrella) in Vancouver and Sion (Bob) in Seattle, her siblings Jane, Ann, and David James (Gina) in North Wales, and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was born in Mochdre, Wales, on July 2, 1937. After attending Cartrefle Teacher's Training College in Wrexham, Wales, she backpacked through much of Europe, and, in 1965, moved to Malacca, Malaya, to work as a primary school teacher for the British Army Children's School.
On a side trip to Hong Kong in 1966, she met her future husband Patrick in an elevator at the YMCA; they were married in Wales in 1967.
They moved to Montreal and then to Armstrong in 1969. Margaret participated in various community activities over the years, ranging from Akela for the Armstrong Boy Cubs to a member of the Vocal Joy Choir and the Vernon Welsh Society.
She worked as the Activities Director for the Willowdale Seniors Home in Armstrong for many years before retiring in 2000.
She enjoyed walking, gardening, and like many Welsh people, especially enjoyed music and song.
Despite some hard losses in her life, Margaret remained a sweet and gentle natured soul, a kind and wonderful mother, aunt and sister.
She will be greatly missed. Special thanks to the staff at the Villa Carital Seniors Care Community Vancouver for their 12 years of compassionate and dedicated caring.
A service with family and friends attending was held Sunday, September 24, at the Mountain View Cemetery Celebration Hall in Vancouver.
Interment to follow at a later date in Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery.
