She is survived by her sons, John and Colin, both of Armstrong, B.C., her daughter, Ann (Ivan) Jakic of Kamloops, B.C., her grandchildren; Maggy, Ana, Mary, Patrick, Clayton, Christopher and Jessica, 14 great-grandchildren, her brother, Jack of Powell River, B.C., many nieces and nephews along with her little dog, Fritz, who was her constant companion. Margaret spent her early years in Erickson, the Creston Valley, attending the University of British Columbia at the age of 16 years. Her teaching career began at Marguerite and later at Alexis Creek, in the Chilcotin area, and it was there that she met her future husband, Ralph “Bud” Shaver. They were married in 1936 and had a family of six. Margaret taught at Allan Matthews School and several others in the Kamloops area. However, it was the small rural schools that were her passion; Duck Range being one of the most special. In 1974 she and Bud retired to an acreage in Armstrong where she enjoyed gardening, baking and reading. On Christmas Eve she baked pies, in preparation for Christmas Day company. Her wonderful, beautifully written letters will be so missed. Her strength and dignity inspired all who knew her.
