Marie Myrtle Dale

Marie Myrtle Dale passed peacefully away on December 29, 2005 at Pleasant Valley Manor, Armstrong, B.C. at the age of 96 years.

Marie was predeceased by her husband, Jack. O. Dale in January 1961, who was Administrator of Vernon Jubilee Hospital, and her great grandson, Ewen Barry Newton on April 2, 2001. She was also the only living member of the Jackson family’s fourteen children.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Janet Mattock and husband Barry of Armstrong, son Jack Dale and his wife, Frances of Cairns, Australia. Granddaughter Wendy Schroeder and husband Dan Kunzelman of Vernon, B.C., granddaughter Sherry Mattock of Coquitlam, granddaughter Donna Ritchie and husband Ronald, of Vernon. Grandchildren Toby Jackson and husband Neil of Brisbane, Australia, Kirby Dale and wife Venus, of Chaing Mai, Thailand, Great Grandchildren Dave Shroeder and wife Crystal, Kessa Schroeder all of Vancouver, B.C. Great Grandsons Cris Hodgson and Graham Hodgson, both of Vernon, B.C. as well as many other relatives and friends in Armstrong, Vernon, Kelowna and Alberta.

Marie was born in Hesper, North Dakota and travelled to Consort, Alberta with her family where they farmed a homestead, raised 14 children and lived in a sod house. She had great love for all her brothers and sisters and visited them often. Marie was a published poet, but lost her work in a fire in Penticton many years ago. She was never to write again. She was very happy living at Pleasant Valley Manor and was very close to the staff who took such good care of her.

Marie was a nurse all of her life. She trained in Edmonton General Hospital graduating at 19 years of age. She nursed in Berwyn Alta. before marrying Jack. It was a small hospital and she was the only nurse. A very large responsibility for a young nurse. She also worked at Whiterock General Hospital after her husbands death. She did Geriatric nursing in Penticton, B.C. as well. We will all remember her for her jovial spirit and smiling face. She was greatly respected by her family and is a big loss to all of us.

A service of joy will be held later in the year. Arrangements to be announced later. Interment will be held at North Vancouver Cemetery next to her husband. Final dates to be announced later.
