Mary Ewanchuk (nee Malysh) passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, on May 28, 2006, at the age of 88 years. Mary was born in Hamlin, Alberta, and came to Vernon in 1947. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in 1966. Mary was also predeceased by her mother, Anne and stepfather John Ostafichuk, brother Andrew, and sisters-in-law Emily Malysh and Margaret Trufananko. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children: Ed (Audrey) and George of Vernon, Rose (Ernie) Fuhr of Fort St. John, Vi (Nick) Alexis of Vernon, and Kathy (Bill) Cobb of Maple Ridge. She is also survived by grandchildren: Gary (Victoria) Fuhr, Lynn Fuhr (Eric Davies), Wayne (Nicole) Fuhr, Tanya (Reid) Page, Nicole (Darren) Coutts, Melissa (Dan) Turner, and Nikki Alexis (Aaron Card); great-grandchildren: Emily, Jordan, Coel, Rhys, Faith, Ry, and Elan. Mary is also survived by siblings: Alex (Shirley), John and Walter (Rose) Malysh, and Sophie (Chris) Kronbauer and numerous extended family members. Mary’s greatest love was her family and she loved cooking, baking and sewing for them, and her love of gardening was known to all. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Royal Purple, the Old Age Pensioners’ Association, and the Schubert Centre. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 1, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, with Mr. Brian Jackson officiating. A Reception will follow in the onsite Tea Room. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to do so may make donations in her memory to either the Baerg-McMurtrie Cancer Clinic at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, 2101-32 St., Vernon, V1T 5L2; or to Hospice House, 3506-27 Ave. Vernon, V1T 1S4.
