NORMA ELSIE AITKEN (nee TRUEMAN) – Norma was born February 10th, 1921 in Edmonton, Alberta, and passed away peacefully at home on May 7th, 2006 at the age of 85 years. A career in art began for Norma at the age of 16 with a scholarship to the Vancouver School of Art, and continued with work in fashion drawing for the Hudson’s Bay Company and David Spencers Limited. Throughout her life Norma pursued this passion continuously, and was a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, The Lahaina Arts Society, Porcelain Artists of Canada, and the Okanagan Artists League. Norma’s art has been displayed in many shows and galleries in Vancouver, Maui, and the Okanagan.

Norma was married to Jack for 57 years prior to his death in 1998 and has resided in Vernon since 1982. She is survived by her loving son Keith (Moira), daughter Debbie (Ed) Kinnear, granddaughters Jennifer (Kevin) Mertz, Amy Kinnear and Shannon Kinnear, great-grandchildren Benjamin and Megan Mertz, sister Doreen Hafft and sisters-in-law Jessie Fuglestad and May Aitken, nephews Clyde Alexander (Marilyn), Bud Alexander (Wendy), Norman Alexander (Misty), and niece Marilyn McKenzie (Chuck). A memorial service will be held Saturday May 13th, 2006 at 11:00 am at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home. Cremation. A reception will follow. .
