Born March 10, 1919 – Marlin, SK

Died May 25, 2006 – Vernon, BC

The oldest of 4 children, Olga was raised in Milado, SK, where her father, Nick Malyk was an elevator agent. Anna, Nick & family later moved to Glaslyn, SK, where Nick taught school & farmed.

Olga married Nick Philipow in Glaslyn & the young couple eventually moved to Ravendale where they farmed. In 1949 they sold the farm and moved into Carrot River, SK Nick bought a tire shop.

In 1965 Olga became the town librarian – a job she always enjoyed. Mom loved to read and “travelled” to many places through her books.

In 1979 Olga moved from Carrot River to North Vancouver to be closer to her daughter Alice & sister Violet. May 2004 she moved to Noric House in Vernon where her daughter Shirley could visit often.

Olga & Nick had 5 children, Alice (Birch) of Maple Ridge, BC, Violet (Clark) of Weyburn, SK, Doris (deceased 1957), Wilfred (Shannon) of Winnipeg, MB, and Shirley (Don) Bigelow of Lumby, BC; 9 grandchildren & 2 great granddaughters.

A memorial gathering of family & friends will be held in Carrot River at a later date.
