Peter Ernst Hirschmiller passed away March 21, 2024, at Hospice House in Vernon with his first and last love, Maureen (Sangster, Hirschmiller) Soichuk at his side.
He fought a long battle with metastatic prostate cancer. He is predeceased by his parents Ernst and Margaret and his brother Wilfred. He is survived by his stepmother Irene Hirschmiller, his sisters Karen Hirschmiller and Susanne Hirschmiller, his sons Jordan (Katie) Hirschmiller and Ryan (Melissa) Hirschmiller, his granddaughter Isla Hirschmiller, niece Meagan Lauer and nephew Jared (Emily) Lauer. He is also survived by numerous aunts and cousins and their families in Germany.
Peter was born October 17, 1952, in Saskatchewan, shortly after his parents immigrated from Germany. The family moved to the Okanagan, and he spent all of his school years in Armstrong graduating in 1970. He attended UBC and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1975. Peter was a Shoppers Drug Mart associate in Kamloops and then in Vernon. After retirement he spent time at the lake in Vernon and at the desert in Palm Springs.
Peter enjoyed travelling, 18 months in Europe with Mo in the 70's and off on his own to Asia for his 60th birthday, plus many other shorter trips. He worked hard at everything he did and didn't let his physical limitations hold him back. He enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, sailing and being out on the scooter with his dog, Zak.
His smile and accepting attitude will be missed by his many friends and family. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the BC Cancer Society.
