Nov 30, -0001 – Nov 2, 2017
Russell Ferrie was born in Invermay, Saskatchewan to Mable Hope and Gladstone Ferrie.
He was the youngest sibling of Benjamin, Robert and his sister Sheila Grace.
Russell ran a hotel in Invermay, married Leona McCowna and had four children. Kim, Warren, Allyson, and Jean.
He went on to become an Anglican Minister. His first Parish was Loon Lake, Saskatchewan, and then moved to Shellbrook, Saskatchewan. When the kids were in their teens they moved to Yellowknife, NWT where he was the Anglican minister and the Alcohol and Drug counselor for the Yellowknife Correctional Institute. After six years in the North they then moved to Williams Lake, BC and finally settled in Langley, BC for almost twenty years.
They retired from the ministry and came to the Okanagan to be closer to some of their children. Russ continued to work with the church in Lumby, Westwold and Vernon, BC. He had a gift for helping people from many walks of life, and made many great lifelong friendships wherever he went. He had a wonderful sense of adventure about life and the future of the world, and a passion for reading anything and everything and sometimes two or three books at one time.
He had a wonderful smile and the best hugs ever! No matter who you were YOU deserved one! He was an amazing human being and loved each of his children more than he could say and shared a loving 62 years of marriage with Leona (deceased April 10, 2014).
He loved being a Grampa and Great Grampa and had so much joy anytime the little ones were there to visit. He had a passion for hockey all his life. He played, coached and watched “religiously” to the point of stress. Leona had to stop him from watching as he got waaaay to excited. He would do anything he could for his family and anyone who needed him. He did his best!
A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM, with a reception to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Russell may do so to the Primates World Relief Fund.
