OIZUMI, Satosu “Tosh”

“Zoom”

June 23, 1941 -

June 14, 2017

On June 14, 2017, Tosh passed away peacefully at Vernon’s Hospice House with his wife of 51 years, Irene, and his son, Jason, at his side.

Born and raised in Vernon, Okanagan Lake was home to his family: Tsuneko, Seichi and his sister, Sumie.

A 1965 UBC graduate and Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity member, Tosh was also an active member of the Vernon Japanese Cultural Society throughout the years.

An avid golfer and member of Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club, Tosh, Irene, and close friend, Agnes Sakakibara, hosted the annual Japanese-Canadian Golf Social Tournament for the past 28 years. What started as an Interior BC event, grew to include golfers from the Lower Mainland and Alberta. The early days included college students from Japan who had never held a golf club.

Tosh and Irene also escaped many winters golfing down in Lompoc, California where many new friendships were made and rekindled over the years.

Thank you to Dr. LePage, Dr. Humphries, Dr. Rankin, and staff at the McMurty-Baerg Cancer Clinic. A special thank you to the “angels” at Vernon’s Hospice House who provided such loving care during his short stay there. And, of course, much love to all of you who made Tosh’s life so very special.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McMurtry-Baerg Cancer Clinic, the North Okanagan Hospice Society in Vernon or to a charity of choice.

Tosh’s memorial will be announced at a later date.
