VIOLET ANNIE TOOMBS

Violet Annie Toombs, born April 23, 1921 at Melfort, Sask., passed away in Vernon, B.C. August 5, 2005 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Annie West, brother George and wife Alice and sisters-in-law Grace and Beverly. Vi is survived by her husband Glen of 59 years, twin sister Grace (Birgie), daughter Rosemary (Andy), son Stanley, granddaughter Debbie (Eric), great grandchildren Jeremy and Sarah, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Vi was very musical, playing the cornet in the Melfort band before enlisting in the R.C.A.F., where she played in Station Bands. She resided in Vancouver, Revelstoke, North Burnaby (Capitol Hill), Port Coquitlam, Okanagan Centre and Vernon. She was a Brownie leader for several years in North Burnaby. Vi was a beautiful seamtress, sewing wedding gowns and baby quilts for family and friends. She knitted and crocheted many baby outfits to raise funds for the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She will be remembered for her beautiful gardens, homemade pies and potato salads. She had a love for all animals, especially her two Shelties, Sparky and Mitzie. Special thank you to the Gateby staff at Vernon, B. C. past and present for their loving care of Vi and their support to her family. There will be no funeral at Vi’s request.
