Winnona Joyce Klassen

Aug 25, 1934 – May 7, 2010

Nona passed away suddenly on a bus tour in Lake Chelan, Washington. She was born in Kamloops, eldest of four sisters and two brothers, moving to Oliver in 1943 with her family. She attended elementary school and Southern Okanagan High School. After grad, she worked in Whites Pharmacy and the fruit packing house. Local boy Frank Klassen, caught her eye and they were married in 1954.

They later moved to the coast, living in Vancouver, Surrey and settling down in White Rock where she had three children. The family moved to this valley in 1968 where they lived in the same house for almost forty years. Nona and Frank were very active in square dancing where she sewed fantastic matching outfits for them both. Later, she became very busy with her T.O.P.S. group and the Red Hat Ladies (Crown Jewels of Canada).

Nona leaves behind her husband, Frank, daughters Sherri Graydon (Allan) of Vernon, Dixie Klassen (Dave) of Mission, and son, Kyle Klassen (Teresa) of Vernon. Also, two grandchildren, Mark Graydon (Melissa) of Cranbrook and Amber Babchuk (Chris) of Sicamous. And missing their “nana” is great grandchildren, Elayna and Carter (and Austin, son of Chris.) Her sisters Bonnie, Roberta (Colin) and brothers Keith (Ruth), Duane (Diane), brother-in-laws, George (Judy) and Ernie (Barbara), many nieces, nephews and friends will miss this wonderfully kind lady. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Stella.

A celebration of Nona’s life will take place June 2, 1:00pm at the Schubert Center 3505 30th Ave, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society or charity of your choice.
