Bella Vista hunters

On Sept 21, the three of you were bow hunting for deer in my neighbourhood.

Now bylaw 5399 allows for bow hunting in the City of Vernon with some caveats. You must be on properties larger than two hectares and all arrows must be marked with in a “permanent manner” in order to allow for the identification of the owner.

The B.C. Wildlife Act (hunting regulations) says “It is unlawful to hunt or discharge a firearm within 100 metres of a church, school building, school yard, playground, regional district park, dwelling house, or farm or ranch building that is occupied by persons or domestic animals.”

You three were “hunting” within 100 meters of two dwelling houses that are occupied.

One of you fired an arrow towards the deer in the field from the back of your truck. All the time you three were “hunting,” there are people walking by on the street including children.

It is this sort of hunting behaviour that brings disrepute down on all moral and ethical hunters. I can not say for sure but all I could see were does and fawns in the field. There may have been a small buck but no four point buck as per the Wildlife Act.

So if there was no four point buck, what were you shooting at? Or do you care, your objective being to kill something, legal or not.

And then you could not find your arrow, or did you wound a deer and it leave with your arrow?

This is our neighbourhood, please give it the respect it is due.

If you insist on hunting in Vernon city limits, please obey the rules. The 100 metre rule will put you in the middle of a field without cover.
