Climate change can’t be ignored

It’s been an incredible year so far for extreme weather, and for learning the true nature of the changes to the climate we have brought about.

It’s been an incredible year so far for extreme weather, and for learning the true nature of the changes to the climate we have brought about.

Through our continued burning of fuels such as oil, gas and coal, its clear we are constructing the greatest challenge in human history: averting increasingly destructive weather events.

From hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, to flooding in Bangladesh, to the billions of dollars lost to forest fires in B.C., the human and financial costs of climate change keep mounting.

Yet in the face of such incredible losses, we continue to be represented by a federal minister who denies the reality of where we find ourselves. If we are to provide our children with a future worth living, how can we afford a federal representative who runs from reality?

After this difficult year of smoke and floods, can Mel Arnold be courageous and honourable enough to admit his own prejudice against the truth?

The fact that Mel Arnold, our representative for North Okanagan-Shuswap, is prepared to forfeit our children’s future for the sake of his “beliefs” sickens me.

By the time the federal elections of 2019 roll around, I hope the majority of voters in this riding feel the same way.
