Lumby Days couldn’t have come at a better time.

Following the flood waters that have plagued the community, evacuation orders and alerts have finally been lifted and residents are now trying to get their lives, and homes and property, back in order.

While the Village of Lumby is working in recovery mode to help properties on a one-by-one basis, flood watch (and the issues that come with it) continues. The same goes in Vernon on Lakeshore Road, in Enderby along the Shuswap River, out on the Westside, Mabel Lake cabins and more.

Therefore for those who can manage to get away from the sandbagging and protection efforts, Lumby Days will be a nice reprieve.

All the fun kicks off today at 3 p.m. with rides, food, live entertainment and more. The excitement continues all day Saturday and Sunday (wrapping up at 5 p.m.)

While Oval Park is the main hub of events, you can also check out the Firearm and Antiques show at Pat Duke Arena or look high in the sky for the Lumby Air Force. There’s plenty of fun to be had whether you’re watching the hang gliders and paragliders, taking in the parade (11 a.m. Saturday), checking out the car show and shine (noon to 5 p.m. Saturday), extreme freestyle motocross, Laughing Loggers, petting zoo, gold panning or even Bingo at the OAP Hall.

Hopefully all residents will get a chance to enjoy the festivities and get a break from the stress of the floods.

One way to ensure they can, and lend a helping hand, is to head over to one of the many sandbagging locations and fill a few bags. It doesn’t take long, but the efforts are enormously appreciated!
