As a senior and a pedestrian who crosses Highway 97 at Hospital Hill several times a week, I question the common sense and necessity to stop traffic to facilitate a pedestrian crossing.
With the medians already in place, I fail to see the necessity to cross four lanes of traffic in a single motion. I don’t recall ever having to wait more than a minute or two at the very most to cross safely. Contrary to the wisdom of one councillor, I think stopping loaded freight trucks and semi-trailers travelling up or down a seven per cent grade is ludicrous, especially when you consider the time loss, use of extra fuel and wear and tear on brakes.
I think advance amber lights would go a long way to solving the problem.
