Stickle Road, get over it

I have read the latest saga about how we need a light at Stickle Road and the wetlands are disappearing.

I have read the latest saga about how we need a light at Stickle Road and the wetlands are disappearing.

First of all, both the North Okanagan Naturalists Club, the Sustainable Environment Network Society and various other letter writers have been no where to be found or heard from when it comes to the filth and squalor along the creek north of Kal Tire Place, pockets through the city and down to the area of the boardwalk in Polson Park. Last year was a complete disgrace and this year is not much better.

So the habitat for many birds and animals was being mostly destroyed or at best disrupted by these camp dwellers, the majority of which are from out of town or out of province.

And where were you folks? I guess these areas were just not worthy of your attention and petitions.

If you had taken time to look, the wetlands also stretch on the west side of the highway from Swan Lake, north to Kal Tire Place, a very large and mostly undisturbed area, but it really is not about that. It is about wanting a light because either you or friends simply cannot plan ahead and it is just too inconvenient to travel down Pleasant Valley Road to 48th Avenue.

Traffic going north is horrendous as drivers battle their way through town, held up continually by the left-turns and they finally manage to break through, only to be held up by some drivers that needs a light at Stickle because they just cannot grasp the notion there is an alternative route to get to the coffee shop or store. That is the most irritating of all — the all about me attitude.

It is very unfortunate that a no left-turn sign was not placed at the intersection. End of story and it would probably cost less than $1,000.

I suggest you groups spend your time ensuring dogs are kept out of playgrounds and that used needles are picked up from the parks before some child gets injured. Then again, this is B.C. where all of these little vocal groups demand that their view be accepted regardless of the cost and inconvenience to taxpayers.

You are playing the enviro card and failing that, letters will appear from near and far from people who were going to visit or relocate to Vernon but now will not because there is no light at Stickle Road.
