Upper Room Mission

I really connected with the letter from Sam Zaharia about the Upper Room Mission.

I really connected with the letter from Sam Zaharia about the Upper Room Mission.

My husky, Pika, and I go every week to visit the folks there.

Pika is a St. John Ambulance certified therapy dog, whose mission is to comfort people who are experiencing difficulty in their lives.

But he gets so exited when I put on his little kerchief that I realize the reverse is true The URM is therapy for him and for me.

He gets the copious attention and treats he loves, and I get to interact with good people. I really resent the stereotype that the URM is populated by “losers” who “don’t read.”

All of the folks at the mission treat me with the utmost respect and it is reciprocated by me and my dog.

The dog is much more adept than humans at recognizing which humans are worthy of respect.

Congratulations to St. John Ambulance and the URM volunteers who work so hard to practice what Jesus preached.

If I was invited to have lunch at the White House or the Upper Room Mission, I’d choose the URM any day because the people there are superior human beings in my opinion and I enjoy hanging out with them.
