Schuetze shines in WolfPack exhibition loss

Fourth-year post Diane Schuetze rung up 18 points as the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack dropped an 89-45 decision to the NCAA Division 1 Ole Miss Rebels in exhibition women’s basketball play Saturday in Langley.

The Rebels, who play out of Oxford, Miss. in the 12-member Southeastern Conference, are on a tour of B.C.

“It was a good gauge for our team and the work they need to do to get back in shape and perform at a high level,” said WolfPack head coach Scott Reeves, who had three veterans, including second-year forward Karalyn Forsyth of Vernon, out of the lineup.

Schuetze also led the Wolfpack with 11 rebounds, while rookie guard Taisya Worsfold of Kamloops sank nine points and fourth-year forward Tracy Kocs of Coquitlam added seven.

“They (Ole Miss) took advantage of our turnovers and used their size,” added Reeves. “They offensive rebounded very well. Our program has never played this early so it was a nice chance to see where we are.”

TRU played with four rookies in the lineup including wing Britney Walton of Vernon and guard Jade Montgomery-Waardenburg of Kelowna.
