The North Okanagan Legends grounded Kamloops 10-2 Sunday to win the Interior Under 16 Field Lacrosse League championship at MacDonald Park.

The U16’s went all season undefeated, out-scoring the competition 160-29.

“We dominated everyone in the league” said Legends’ head coach Dave McWhirter. “We played three different players in net this season as our starter broke his thumb in the first game. Our defence was very strong which allowed our middies and attacks lots of time with the ball. We had only four  players not score a goal this year, not bad on a team of 25 players”

Kamloops grabbed an early 2-0 lead as the Legends had trouble catching and passing. However, they found their groove late in the first quarter, tying things up just before the break.

The Legends will attend the provincials sometime in January, in Burnaby.

On attack, Kyle Cuzzetto scored twice, while singles went to Brayden Hoggarth, Sam Hanley, Tyler Landry and Ryan Martin 1.

Midfielders Marlon Forrest (2) and Carson Holt also found the net, while on big stick (defence), Chris Inscho bagged one goal.

The North Okanagan U12’s lost to Penticton in the semifinals and Penticton went on to beat Kamloops in the final.

In U14’s, the North Okanagan Legends lost 8-4 to Kelowna in the final. The Legends defeated Kamloops 6-5 in the semis.
