The Vernon Petite Rebels split a pair of league games last weekend, stopping the Kelowna Whites 5-1 before falling 9-6 to the Shuswap Whites.
Abygayle Williamson scored twice Saturday at Priest Valley Arena, singles going to Alyssa Carter, Madison Fox and Georgia Lannon. Clancy Coulter had two assists. Liam Van Wyk earned the win.
Fox led the Rebels with a hat trick Sunday at Jim Lind Arena in West Kelowna. Williamson (2), Lannon, Katie Simpson and Ashley Shwaluk completed the offence.
The Tween B Vernon Renegades fell 5-2 to Kelowna Sunday. Goals came from Miranda Chapplle and Mason Christensen. Strong Renegades showings were turned in by Makayla Vanderzwan and Ellen Campbell.
The Petite Vernon Voltage topped Kelowna 9-3 at home on Saturday. Kalen Webster, Mackenzie Munroe and Levi Knopf each netted a couple of goals, while Rylie Marchand, Giselle Torres and Kenzie Koshure supplied singles.
Bryn Taylor-Hawes and Torres helped out with a few assists. Jaden Scott played outstanding in net.
In Novice action, the Vernon Orcas collected a couple of wins, brushing back Kelowna Whites 8-6 Saturday.
Paige Neufeld and Chayse Krause each pocketed a deuce, with Sierra Lochhead, Tori Christensen, Tye Krause and Daine Thoma providing singles. Brooklyn Young had an amazing debut in net.
On Sunday, the Orcas grounded the Kelowna Reds 11-7 behind hat tricks from Tye Krause and Logan Thoma.
Daine Thoma and Arianna Kositsin each added two goals, while Mackensie Gilman scored once.Kositsin also recorded two assists with others coming from Sierra Lochhead, Gilman and Logan Thoma. Brooklyn O’Hara and Amber Lowe added support with stellar play all around and Tori Christensen picked up the win.
In U16 play, Team BC Century 21 Junior A team iced Kelowna Junior A’s 6-3 Saturday at PV Arena.
Kelowna took an early two-goal lead before Olivia Percy and Taylor Gray kicked their defence in high gear while Hannah Popilchak soon put Vernon on the board with a great goal, then smartly fed Bailey Williamson for the equalizer.
Another Popilchak to Williamson snipe left Vernon leading at the break. Kelowna tied things up before Williamson netted her hat trick goal off a great pass from Percy. Sydney Harder cut through the seam on a power play to back hand a top shelf shot where mamma hides the Girl Guide cookies and Hannah Popilchak added an empty netter.
Netminder Billy Cawthorne literally bent over backwards to make save after save for Vernon, while stingy defence from Kennedy Pope, Katelyn Paulin & Carly Alexander gave Kelowna little chance.
In U14 action, Vernon’s Cornerstone Dental ambused Kelowna 6-1 in Tween A action Sunday morning at the Capital News Centre. Kelowna earned a quick goal, but their lead didn’t last long at Alex Drury shelved two goals, the first from Saylor Martian, and the next off a Kendra Ostafie pass.
Saige Woodliffe then scored unassisted to send Vernon into the half up 3-1. Kelowna just couldn’t get anything past goalie Garrett Adams or around the defence of Martian, Alyssa Racine, Evan Koshure and Maddy Percy.
Kendra Ostafie topped Vernon up with two goals, one from Alex Drury and the other from Shelby Connors, with pressure from Wynter Vanderveen, Delaney Tetrault, Emma Carter and Chelsea Marshall. Racine scored the final goal.
In U19 action Saturday, the Jacura Trucking Vernon Belles fell 7-3 to Salmon Arm.
Salmon Arm grabbed an early 5-1 lead with Shelby Fisher scoring unassisted for Vernon. Fisher, on a feed from Aryana Jacura, and Brianna Thalheimer, from Morgan Vanderzwan, counted the Jacura crew’s other snipes.
The U19’s tied the Kelowna Belle A’s 6-6 in their home opener Sunday at PV Arena.
Vernon’s hard work ethic paid off big time with Vanderzwan (2), Dayna Hanley, Jacura, Kaylee Barss and Kendra Racine scoring in front of a stellar Sarah Semph.
