Pepper paces Panthers

Mitchell Pepper drained 27 points as the VSS Panthers ambushed the Pleasant Valley Saints 85-37 in North Zone Senior AA Boys Basketball League play Wednesday night.
Chris Inscho canned 24 points, including the first senior Panther dunk in the new gym.
Shelby Hartwig recorded 12 points and 15 rebounds to help the Cats, who got 11 points and 10 boards from Matt Forsythe. Travis Barker enjoyed a stellar showing with eight points.
Sam Fennell fired eight points for Pleasant Valley, who trailed 18-13 after one quarter.
Pepper and Inscho, both Grade 11 students, were magic in the second and third quarters, counting 40 points between them. Hartwig, who also has a year left at VSS, and Forsythe ruled the boards.
In other Wednesday night action, the Fulton Maroons zapped the host Seaton Sonics 62-46.
Tye Kitzman rung up 16 points to lead the Maroons, while Marshall Kazemir and Darrien Broomfield each drained a dozen points.
In Tuesday night action, Kitzman flushed 29 points as the Maroons iced Pleasant Valley 90-35.
Riley Beauchamp bagged 19 points, while Broomfield added 14. Fulton visits the Kalamalka Lakers tonight (7:45) and then prepares for the Sa-Hali Sabres Invitational next weekend in Kamloops.
In senior AA girls play Wednesday night, VSS stormed Pleasant Valley Sinners 80-16 behind 19 points from Sage Blundell.
Quinsy Leier chalked up 16 points and a team-high 15 rebounds, while Karley Fugel earned 14 points and nine boards and Mary Rice pocketed a dozen points and six rebounds.
“One of our keys was rebounding and we were happy with that area tonight,” said VSS co-coach Bobby Mitchell.
The 3-0 Panthers visited the Revelstoke Rams Thursday and entertain the Lakers Saturday at 6 p.m. in league games.
Samantha Ferreir dialed 26 points and Hana Ouchi added 22 as Fulton iced the Sinners 80-35 Tuesday night.
Grade 10 call-up Lee Richardson drained a dozen points, while Emma Miller canned 10 and Grade 10er Brittany Skrenek counted six points and 20 rebounds. Meranda Silva also had six points.
Fulton was without Danielle Olson and Kristy Foster (injury reserve) and Shaina Banta (sick bay).
In Grade 8 girls play Monday night, VSS brushed back Fulton 45-41.
Brianna Falk recorded 13 points and four steals for the Cats. Reilly Lorenson, with nine, and Haley Stevens, with six, supported the attack.
The Panthers were ahead by almost 20 points at the half, but the Maroons staged a comeback, heavily outscoring VSS in the fourth quarter.
Panthers coach’ Michelle Wiebe gave full kudos to the Maroons.
“If they’d have had another minute on the clock, they might have tied it up,” said Wiebe.
Caleigh Graham sank 23 points and Kieanna Boomer-Jones added 10 for the Panthers.
The teams will meet again in the 3:30 p.m. opener of the Fulton tournament today.
