Cotter rink goes 2-3 at The National

After a disappointing start, Vernon’s Jim Cotter ended his run at $100,000 The National men’s bonspiel by winning two of his final three games.

Supported by third Jason (Gunner) Gunnlaugson, second Ty Griffith and lead Rick Sawatsky, Cotter iced Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen 7-3, and Innerkip, Ont.’s Mark Kean 7-2, before falling 7-4 to Winnipeg’s Jeff Stoughton Friday in Port Hawkesbury, N.S.

The final eight of the World Curling Tour event featured an all-star cast: Edmonton’s Kevin Martin, Newfoundland’s Brad Gushue, McEwen, Sweden’s Niklaus Edin, Brandon’s Rob Fowler, Calgary’s Kevin Koe, Jacobs and Stoughton.

The final goes today at 10:30 a.m. (PT).
