Vernon Mustangs move to semifinals
The Watkin Motors Mustangs will face the defending champion Vancouver Thunderbirds Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 42nd Coca-Cola Invitational Pee Wee Hockey Tournament at Civic Arena. Face-off is 2:45 p.m.
Towering centre Coleton Bilodeau scored twice and set up another as the Mustangs brushed back the Edmonton Seera Icemen 6-3 Friday afternoon. Vernon finished preliminary play in the eight-team tournament at 2-1, good for second place in the Coca-Cola Division.
The Thunderbirds, who topped the Sun Valley Source For Sports Division at 3-0, toppled the Nanaimo Clippers 8-1 Friday night. Nanaimo will take on the Coke Division champion Springbank Whalers of Calgary (3-0) in the other Saturday semi at 12:30 p.m.
Captain Dylan Sedlacek, Powell Connor, Rowan Miller and Nick Cherkowski also scored for the Mustangs, who had Jordan Wilde in net. Liam Belcourt, Chase Lowry and Aryton Laderoute replied for the 0-3 Icemen, who got two helpers from Max Bulawka.
The A final goes Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at Civic.
