Vernon Venom reach sweet 16

The Vernon Valley Wood Remanufacturing Venom extended their winning streak to 16 games with a 9-3 stuffing of Kamloops #1 in Atom Development hockey play Saturday at Priest Valley Arena.

Gage Stoll, Tysen Fairweather and Coletyn Boyarski supplied two goals each, while singles came from Lochlan O’Keefe, Gavin Medema and Connor Elliott. Jacob Boden and O’keefe each had a pair of assists with Boyarski and Medema providing additional helpers.

In Okanagan Mainline Midget Tier 1 playoff action, the Vernon Home Building Centre Vipers lost 2-0 to host North Kamloops Lions Saturday.

“We outplayed them for much of the game, but couldn’t find a way past their goalie,” said Vernon head coach Rob Spraggs. “They capitalized on a couple of their chances and we couldn’t seem to do the same. We still have a good chance to win this series, but we have to start putting pucks in the net.”

Game 2 in the best-of-three semifinal series goes Saturday, 3 p.m., at Civic Arena.

The Sladen Moore Bantam A Female Lakers stopped the Corbett Office Supply Spartans 8-3 in exhibition play Saturday at Civic.

Jenna Fletcher scored on a great one-timer in the blue paint for the Lakers’ opening goal. Chris Moore tied it up two minutes later when he tapped in a rebound, but the Lakers took the lead a minute later when Cailee Bauml went five-hole from the slot.

Fletcher ended up with 3+1, Hunter Joseph scored two beauties from the high slot and Ripley Burd and Sammy Head rounded out the Laker offence. Darius Stone and Reece Schroeder scored for the Spartans. Maya Baker and Bailey Berndt shared the Laker net duties.

The North Okanagan Pee Wee Tier 4 Knights stopped the Kamloops Tomahawks 6-4 and tripped up the Nixon Wenger Tier 3 Rattlers 3-1 in exhibition play.

Michael Kormany (3), Bryan Brew, (2) and Eli Dwyer had snipes versus the Hawks Saturday at Valleyview Arena. Matt Dolinar had three helpers in support of Caedon Bellmann and Wyatt Fowler.

Dwyer, with a deuce, and Ethan Maarhuis provided Knights’ goals Sunday at Nor-Val Sports Centre. Fowler took the win.

Lucas Wood scored for the Rattlers, from Lincoln Connor.
