The Okanagan Wild lacrosse team has filled six of its first 25 roster spots with Penticton players.

The Wild have signed goalie Connor Ramage, Beau Chetner, Ben Olsen, Nash Moog, Freddy Harbinson and Kale Lawrence for the 2017 season in the B.C. Intermediate Lacrosse League. Each developed in the Penticton Minor Lacrosse Association.

“I felt honoured to be selected as the Wilds’ goalie and knowing that I have the opportunity to help the team to succeed this season,” said Ramage, on being among the first signed players, in a press release. “It is a great feeling and I can’t wait to kick off the 2017 season with the boys.”

“It is both exciting and fitting that the first players signed to the OK Wild are from Penticton,” said Wild coach Dan Chetner. “The Penticton Minor Lacrosse Association produced these A1 calibre players in this age group. Penticton is the only area across the Thompson/Okanagan where players compete at the top level of minor lacrosse provincially. Their experience will serve the Wild well as they enter their inaugural season in the BC Intermediate A Lacrosse League.”

The Wild’s roster will feature elite interior athletes aged 16 to 18 to compete against BC’s best. The Wild will compete against a variety of Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island teams with the season set to open in April.

“These Penticton players have had experience playing this type of high-level lacrosse for years. They are all hungry to succeed and take great pride in representing this team and the entire Okanagan in our inaugural season,” said Wild general manager Martin Gardner. “We feel excited for our team and our organization to have these great kids officially on board. Their character, passion and love for the game perfectly aligns with our clubs purpose for playing and the goals we want to accomplish in Year one.”

Try-outs for the Wild are scheduled for Feb. 19 at Hassen Arena in Armstrong from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
