Canadians teams fall short

BASEBALL: Four Vernon teams among entries in nine divisions at Valley of the Champions event

Four Vernon Canadians teams were among those from around B.C. and Alberta that competed in nine different divisions at the 15th annual Valley of the Champions minor baseball tournament in Kelowna.

The Vernon entry with the best record was the team in the Mosquito AAA division, which started 3-0, but ended with a 3-3 mark.

Vernon beat West Kelowna 9-7, Central Okanagan #2 6-5 and South Okanagan AA 9-8 before losing 15-1 to Central Okanagan #1, 10-0 to South Okanagan AAA and 12-2 to St. Albert.

Vernon went 1-3 in the Mosquito A U10 event. Vernon defeated Central Okanagan 12-11 but lost 10-4 to Prince George, 12-6 to Ridge Meadows and 15-5 to Ladner.

There were two Vernon teams in the Pee Wee AA tournament. Vernon Blue went 1-3, recording a 20-5 victory over Central Okanagan. Vernon fell 14-4 to St. Albert, 14-12 to Victoria and 14-4 to the Surrey Canadians.

Vernon Red went 0-4, losing 17-4 to Kamloops; 17-10 to West Kelowna; 13-3 to Ladner; and 20-2 to South Okanagan.
