The Vernon H&L Glass Junior Vipers struck silver in the Kamloops Atom B Development Hockey Remembrance Day Classic.

Kelowna iced Vernon 9-1 in the final with Oliver Murray scoring for the Vipers. MVP went to Brayden Fernley, while the Heart & Hustle honour went to Max Reed.

Morgan Hackman pulled the hat trick for MVP as the Vipers shaded Kamloops 7-6 in an overtime shootout semifinal. Teigan Kelley, Ollie Reid and Oliver Murray rang up singles.

The Vipers killed off a 5-on-3 in four-on-four overtime with goalie Kasey Fuson fabulous. Reid, who took the Heart & Hustle award, and William Heighway posted shootout snipes.

“It was nice to see our kids exectuve some of the things that we’ve been working on in practice,” said Viper head coach Ryan Reid. “We were such on an emotional high after our shootout semifinal win. We didn’t have much gas left in the tank for the final.”

The H&L Glass crew opened by crushing Coquitlam 8-1 with Heighway earning MVP with two goals and singles going to

Murray, Lyndon Tung, Hackman, Evan Kashuba, Reid and Hudson Restiaux. Hustle props went to Murray.

Kamloops stopped Vernon 9-5 in the round-robin with Kelley receiving MVP with two goals. Hackman also pocketed a pair and Luc Vandervelde had a single and took the Hustle honours.

Kelowna shut down Vernon 4-0 in other preliminary play with MVP going to Bryce Cormier and the Hustle to Evan Kashuba.

The Vernon Valley Wood Junior Vipers had a blast in the C division of the same Kamloops tournament, falling to Quesnel Thunder in the Sunday morning semifinal

Vernon started with an amazing end-to-end rush goal from MVP Nolan Wilson. The Hustle award went to Reid Williamson.

Kelowna used a late goal to shade the Vipers 3-2 with David Calder and Tyson Wicklund getting the goals. Goalie Oscar Homeniuk was marvellous for MVP, while d-man Carter Davidson grabbed the Hustle in perhaps Vernon’s finest game of the season.

The Vipers were blanked 4-0 by Kamloops in their opener with blueliner Kalin Frick garnering MVP and Tylen Lewis taking the Hustle.

The Vipers observed a moment of silence for veterans prior to their Remembrance Day game against the Thunder. losing 7-3 in a fast-paced affair. Wicklund pulled the hat trick for MVP, while the Hustle award went to Brandon Quist.

“The kids played really hard and had lots of chances, and we can really see what they are capable of,” said Valley Wood head coach Wayne Wicklund. “I’m looking forward to our next league game.”

In Midget Tier 3 league play, the Coca-Cola Vipers toppled the Trail Smoke Eaters 6-1 Saturday at Priest Valley Arena.

Cory Lazar counted 2+2 for the Coke crew which is 20-0. Gavin Fleck smacked the water bottle twice on two high snipes, while KT Walters and Jacob Brewer provided singles. Mason Robinson and Ethan Joe each supplied two assists in front of a solid Koltin Dodge.

The Watkin Motors Mustangs racked up a pair of Pee Wee Tier 2 wins, throttling host Kamloops 17-3 before zapping Kelowna 13-1.

Kyle Wheeler, Logan Killingbeck and Erik Pastro all had hat tricks to lead the Mustangs Saturday at the Sandman Place. Austin Seibel was in net.

Deagan McMillan collected 1+6 as the Mustangs won Sunday at Kal Tire Place. Matthew Kuhnlein was in goal for the 4-0-1 Mustangs.

“Everyone was on the scoresheet and that was great to see,” said Mustang coach Taylor Wilson “The kids played with lots of effort and the dee was very solid both games.”

The Mustangs face host Penticton this weekend.
