Jeff Kober has a lot going on these days.

His wife, Tye, is expecting the couple’s second child any day now. Oh, and once he’s completed a shift as an electrician at Roko Service, he tries to get in a quick 18 holes.

The quiet, unassuming 27-year-old found time to record rounds of 75 and 70 to take the Vernon Toyota Men’s Golf Club Championship, winning a one-hole playoff over past champion Steve King Sunday afternoon.

With his boss and father, Conrad, carrying his bag, Kober produced nines of 36-34 Sunday. King carded 75-70 before encountering some short-game troubles in the playoff on the par-4 18th for a double bogey. Kober scored a bogey.

“I had some good drives all weekend,” said Kober, a one handicap who began his career as a tyke at Hillview. “I decided I was going to go for everything. I didn’t hit an iron off the tee except for 18. My putting was pretty good too.”

Kober, whose drive on the playoff landed behind a tree, collected a $150 pro shop gift certificate.

“I need a new hat,” he laughed. “I’ve only got one hat, a Titleist.”

King earned a $100 gift card. There was a field of 76 with Bob Everitt capturing low net honours at 130. He also claimed a $150 GC.

On the women’s side, where there were 29 players, Karen Hassard won for a 25th time at 83-83-166.

Marla Taylor claimed the senior club title at 172, while the low net champion was Nadien Haneman at 143.
