The Kalamalka Lakers are on a major roll.
Just three days after they won the 28th annual Fulton Maroons Senior Girls Volleyball November Classic, the Lakers took the North Zone banner in their home gym.
The Lakers brushed back the Maroons 3-2 (25-15, 20-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-10) in the zone final. Kal hosts the Okanagan Valley AA championships, Nov. 17-18.
“Madison Fox, who was sick on the weekend and still ill, made a significant contribution to the win with key blocks and serves,” said Kal head coach Maria Hansen, assisted by Lenai Schmidt of the UBCO Heat, a Kal grad.
“Katie Dennis, who has come off the (Disabled List) DL, made several key digs in the libero position to keep rallies alive after unbelievable defence by both teams. Grade 9 standout and starter Olivia Tymkiw was a force through the middle with key blocks and kills. Georgia Elliott had a huge night from the right side coming up with key kills in the third and fifth winning sets.”
Both Danya Truscott and Emily Dahl were outstanding from the power position for Fulton, challenging Kal’s defence. Fulton captain Allison Hobkirk was solid through both the front and back rows and behind the service line.
Kal earlier swept the Pleasant Valley Saints of Armstrong 2-0 (25-8, 25-13)
“Brookelyn Hill was at her serving best once again, as she was during the weekend’s tournament, helping Kalamalka to victory. Hannah Miller (absent from the Fulton tourney) came in and put away some key points with her attack from the right side,” added Hansen.
Fulton ambushed the beat Revelstoke Rams 2-0 (25-12, 25-4). Truscott was a serving nightmare for Revy as she served 14 in a row to finish out the second set. John Neilson coaches the Maroons.
Revelstoke dispatched PVSS 25-18, 25-18 and will be able to challenge Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops for a final spot in the Valley playdowns.
