The North Okanagan Fairfield Marriott Legends are the B.C. Pee Wee A2 lacrosse champions.

The Legends brushed back Kelowna 8-5 in Sunday’s gold-medal final at the Pomeroy Sport Centre in Fort St. John.

Brady Kuziw was voted MVP of the championship game, while Cosmo Wilson earned tournament MVP and all-star honours for the Legends.

“The kids were simply awesome and deserving of being provincial champions,” said North Okanagan head coach Ryan Williamson.

The Legends placed first in the Thompson Okanagan League to qualify for provincials, losing only two games all regular season.

The Legends went 4-1 in round-robin play in Fort St. John, defeating Ridge Meadows 6-2 and Mission 11-4 in opening-day action Thursday.

The North Okanagan squad, many of whom played on the undefeated Legends Under 11 field lacrosse team last fall, dropped Abbotsford 7-2 and Prince George 11-9 Saturday to clinch a spot in the final. The Legends’ sole loss was 7-6 in overtime to Kelowna.

The Legends were the least penalized team in the championships. They celebrated their gold medals with a tailgate party of pizza and soda pop at their hotel as families began heading home.
