The Lumby Stars stopped Ashcroft 6-2 in the B final Sunday at the Logan Lake Pee Wee Rec Hockey Tournament.
A group of just 10 players coached by Tony Correale, the Cinderalla Stars got 2+1 from Adam Sacht and two goals from Graham Moss.
Tyler Yule and Jack O’Neill contributed singles and goalie Chris Nielsen was stellar in half a game of action. Keith Jones and game MVP Jarrett Miller each pocketed a pair of helpers.
Lumby, whose only previous win came back in November at their home tourney, opened by icing Logan Lake 6-3.
Landon Correale was strong in net and the trio of blueliners – Shale Miller, Jones and O’Neill – were stellar. Sacht provided 3+1, while Miller scored twice and Moss once. Nielsen bagged three assists, while Miller earned two. MVP went to Alyvia Fair.
The Stars then brushed off Ashcroft 10-0 as Correale recorded his first-ever shutout. Yule and O’Neill each registered 3+1, while Miller added 2+1, game MVP Sacht counted 1+4 and Nielsen rung up 1+2.
Lumby then bowed 5-4 to Quesnel in first-round playoff action which saw the Stars erase a 4-2 deficit. Correale was red-hot again in goal, the defence was solid and the offence was handled by Sacht, with 2+1, Miller, with 1+2, and Nielsen.
The Five Star Award Bulldogs bowed 7-2 to Elk Valley in the consolation final of the Castlegar Pee Wee Rec Tournament.
Brennan Seltzer and Tanner Graham scored for the Dawgs, whose game MVP was Ryan Jakes for his strong defensive play and one assist.
The Five Star crew lost 2-1 in overtime to Rossland/Trail in the semifinals, giving up the winner with 42 seconds left in the extra period.
Kobe Romanovitch scored for Vernon Rhys Larsen earning MVP for solid play in net.
The Dawgs opened by bouncing Beaver Valley 12-1 with Romanovitch pocketing 5+2 and MVP Seltzer bagging 3+3.
Graham scored twice, while Kris Chastko supplied 1+4 and Austin Pickard also scored. Paul Rogers had two assists. Larsen and Ethan Huizinga shared net duties.
Romanovitch had another 5+1 showing and Graham added 3+1 as the Dawgs brushed back Castlegar 10-6.
Chastko and Pickard each collected singles, while Seltzer snagged three assists and Fernando Aarts had two. Hannah Swift had one helper and played tough defence for MVP.
Vernon then bowed 6-1 to Nakusp with Seltzer connecting from Chastko and Pickard. MVP went to Aarts for his ever-improving play.
The Sladen Moore Lakers Pee Wee girls split a pair of games with the Winfield Bruins, losing 5-1 before winning 5-1.
Matt Greavette scored twice in the Bruins’ victory with goaltender Zach McLachlan superb.
Tylee Cooper scored from Samantha Head and Makenna Southam for the Lakers.
On Sunday, Jenna Fletcher connected off the opening faceoff, while Emily Clarke (2) and Taylor Vandale completed the offence.
The Vernon Novice C Flames torched the Kelowna Killer Bees 8-5 Saturday in Rutland.
Tanner Brown opened the Vernon offence with a hard wrist shot at 18:05 of the first after receiving a slick pass from defence partner Jacob Green.
Jaxxon Collard made it 2-0 with a solo effort at 13:09 of the same period before Lochlan O’Keefe potted two in succession. The assists went to Steel Quiring and Liam Reid.
Reid rounded out the first-period scoring with 41 seconds left after receiving a neat goal-mouth pass from Quiring.
Green started the scoring for the Flames in the second assisted by Quiring. With 7:35 left in the second, Anne Cherkowski made good on a penalty shot after being hauled down while on a breakaway by Bees speedy forward Riley Dobranski.
It was 7-2 Flames late in the second when the Bees came storming back with four in a row making it a contest. Quiring sealed the deal with his second goal and fourth point of the contest on an assist by Cherkowski.
