The Vernon Five Star Awards Rebels took down the Bantam Super League-leading Salmon Arm Jane’s Place 7-3 in North Okanagan Midget Super Hockey League play Sunday at Civic Arena.

Rebel keeper Jakob Aeichele came up big early, snuffing out a Salmon Arm breakaway with his ready trapper. At the other end, Dawson Twamley put Vernon on the board, burying his own rebound after point man Tyler Kruysifix pounded one on net.

Late in the first, Tyler Hamilton broke up a Salmon Arm rush and fed Cole Grevatt, who finished off a give-and-go with Connor Cecchini to restore the Rebel lead. A scoreless second period gave way to a thrilling third.

A minute after the orange-clad visitors tied the game, Rebel captain Quinn Soon ripped a point shot that caromed to Kayden Bowering, and he swept in the go-ahead goal.

Next, Dylan Wapple turned on the jets to beat out an icing and found Ephren Potter-Cramer, who turned on the red light with a tintinnabulating top-corner snipe.

Salmon Arm cut the lead to 4-3, and then Vernon’s power play struck back as Cecchini banged one home from the doorstep. With four minutes left, Grevatt blocked a shot at the Vernon line, sped off with the puck, and feathered a pass to Potter-Cramer, who whistled one past the goalie’s glove.

Soon after, Bailey Alexis forechecked the puck free to Grevatt, and he spotted Twamley alone in front for the game’s final goal.

Meanwhile, German exchange student Nicolas Magerl pocketed 5+4 as the Talon Benefits Eagles ambushed the Winfield Bruins 15-4 in Midget play Sunday night at Civic Arena.

Jaxxon Collard (4), Reid Lawrence (2), Zack Laranjo, Nick Mitchell, Hayden Vardon and Tanner Franje-Gilbert completed the offence in front of Aidan Spraggs. The Eagles improved to 4-3, while the Bruins dipped to 0-4-1.

Magerl bagged a deuce and singles came from Jaycen Lambert and Connor Hansen as the Eagles fell 7-4 to Salmon Arm Lakeside Printing Saturday night at the Shaw Centre.

The Bannister Oil Kings shelled the North Okanagan Knights in Pee Wee action Sunday at PV Arena. Braxton Tessman scored for the Knights.
