The Seaton Sonics dispatched the Kalamalka Lakers 1-0 in the North Okanagan Senior AA Boys Soccer League final Thursday at Greater Vernon Athletics Park.

After a scoreless first half, defender Maguire Lauridsen scored on a blistering drive from outside the 18-yard box in the 38th minute after a great run from Chris McIntosh down the right side.

Seaton narrowly missed making it 2-0 on a beautiful free kick from captain Kenzel Aarts-Roman from midfield that McIntosh missed converting by a couple of feet.

In the first half, Kal midfielder Daiki Yamamento rifled one over the crossbar from just outside the 18. Early in the second half, pressure from Kaden Funk created a turnover from Seaton keeper Jose Rodrigo Hinojosa Armengual, but he was quickly tracked down by the Seaton defence.

With no time left in the game, Kal was awarded a free kick from 19 yards. Christian Disterhoft beat the wall with his free kick but was foiled by the toe of Seaton defender Kenzel Aarts-Roman and the final whistle went without the corner kick opportunity.

Armengual was solid all afternoon, making some key saves and adding some direction to Seaton’s back end.

Seaton and Kal both advance to the Okanagan Valley Championships, starting next Friday in Kamloops.

The top two teams in the six-team tournament advance to the AA provincial championships, Nov. 20-22, in Burnaby.

Kal stopped the Pleasant Valley Saints of Armstrong 10-0 in Tuesday’s semifinal at Kal.
