The North Enderby Timber took over top spot Wednesday night with a 5-0 North Okanagan Soccer League win over the Salmon Arm GM Outlaws at the Salmon Arm Savings &Credit Union Sports Centre.

Omeet Khatra resumed his hot streak by scoring twice for the Timber, while Joe Binns, Gabriel Price and Brodie Couch each supplied singles in front of keeper Stefan Depner.

Adam Marwood and Andrew Stein controlled the backline for NET, limiting the Outlaws to nothing in the final third of the match. The Timber (13-1-2) have two games left against the Revelstoke Stallions and Outlaws, and need just a point to clinch the league title. The Gibson Cup playoffs open Saturday, Aug. 27.

The league-leading Monashee Surveying FC dipped to second place after falling 3-2 to third-place Salmon Arm Auto Quest Nation of Domination at Marshall Field #2.

Auto Quest (9-5-1) recorded the late winner on a wacky bounce which fooled the Monashee keeper.

Chris Swinburn went top shelf from 20 yards for the first Monashee strike before Kody Glinsbockel converted on a breakaway. Monashee is 13-4 with one game against Revelstoke remaining.

Turn-Key Controls outlasted Revelstoke 5-3 Wednesday night in Salmon Arm.

It was the first meeting between the teams this season since the first game was cancelled due to the flooding and the second was a forfeit by Revelstoke.

Both teams were eager for the win and Revelstoke opened the scoring with a cross that was tipped off the post right to an open attacker who gently placed the ball in the open net.

Moments later, Turn-Key responded with a fabulous through ball from TJ Colovos to Brent Wileman who blasted the ball off the far post and in to level the score.

Turn-Key gained momentum from the goal and earned more possession and offensive pressure, scoring twice before the half to make it 3-1. After the half, the Stallions came out strong and pressed hard for some chances. After a throw-in to the box and a lucky bounce to the Revy attacker, they made it 3-2.

Not too long later, Revelstoke gained possession and went top cheddar with the equalizer.

Both teams pushed for the go-ahead tally in the final 15 minutes and Turn-key gained a corner which was headed on it at the 18 towards the goal. Nathan Tucker pulled off a dummy touch in front of the keeper to make him miss the header and give Turn-Key the lead.

Revelstoke once again was pressing for the tie and with the keeper way out of his net, Adam McCaffery took a chance from half and curled it into the open net for security. Revy dropped to 3-11.

MEN’S 35+ PLAY

First-place Tree Brewing FC bounced Vernon Kal Tire 5-1 in Kelowna Tree Brewing Men’s 35+ Soccer League play on a scorching Tuesday night at Beasley Park in Lake Country.

Tree Brewing struck first with a run from some speedy forwards, but Kal Tire came right back when a hand ball was called in the box to set up a David Broadhurst penalty score to equalize the make-up tilt.

About 15 minutes later, Tree Brewing (13-1-1) converted again with more pace. Just before half, Ryan Sharp broke free in the middle and nailed a hard shot from 25 yards that hit the cross bar, went straight down and spun out.

In the second half, the pace really showed when the Brewers registered two quick goals to make it 4-1. Kal Tire (2-11-2) tried to rally but just couldn’t get going. Tree Brewing got a late goal.

Kal Tire faces Executive Flooring/Inc/Enco tonight (6:30) at Marshall Field #3.

KAMLOOPS TOURNEY

Six Vernon products helped Discovery Glass of Kelowna stop RCC FC of Kamloops 2-0 Monday in the Rec C Division final of a Kamloops Men’s Soccer Tournament.

Jesse Knight, Tyler Johnson, Rodney Goodchild, Alberto Lopez, Ryan Sharp and Jason Beck boosted Discovery Glass to two wins and a draw in round-robin pool play.

The Glassmen won the semifinals 1-0 and then controlled probably 70 per cent of the play in the final, going up 1-0 at the recess.

In the second half, Knight, who has been injured most of the outdoor season, came on for the first minute and scored to give the Kelowna squad some security and their third straight shutout.
