Calling all tennis players from across the Okanagan.

Vernon will be hosting its first ever open tournament May 31 to June 2.

Hosted at Marshall Fields, the tournament is an effort to fill the void in the Okanagan community.

This week, the Lakeview Heights Tennis Club (Kelowna) began the planned demolition of its clubhouse, which led to four of their courts being unable to be used for the remainder of the year. All socials and tournaments typically hosted by the club were cancelled, including the May long weekend tournament.

Other Okanagan tournaments expected this summer are Mission Tennis’ Alpha Zulu Open (Kelowna) in July and Lake Country Tennis’ Summer of Love, hosted in early September.

Registration for the Vernon tourney is now open at vernontennis.com/2024-vta-annual-open-tournament. Men’s singles, doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles are the categories, in three different levels, A, B and C.

The A level is advanced, for players at the 4.0 level or higher. B is intermediate (3.5-4.0) while C is for beginners and suitable for players who are new to tournament and still developing their skills and understanding of the game.
