Jedd Soleway scored twice as the Vernon Vipers smothered the Trail Smoke Eaters 9-2 Saturday night before 990 B.C. Hockey League fans at Cominco Arena.
Vernon d-man and captain Brett Corkey opened the offence just 16 seconds in, and finished with three assists as the Vipers moved into a share of fourth place (6-7-0-5) with Trail in the Interior Division. The Smokies dipped to 8-12-0-1. Vernon has three games in hand on Trail
Adam Tambellini also pocketed 1+3 for the Snakes, who won their third straight. Mitch McAllister, Craig Martin, Michael Roberts, Logan Mick and Pearce Eviston also scored for Vernon, who enjoyed period leads of 3-0 and 7-1.
Mitch Foyle and Adam Wheeldon countered for the Smokies. Danny Todosychuk made 41 saves for the win, while Adam Todd and Lyndon Stanwood combined for 38 stops in the loss.
The Vipers host the Smokies Friday and then entertain the Surrey Eagles Saturday.
