Smoke Eaters snuff Snakes in overtime

Jesse Knowler scored 28 seconds into double overtime as the Trail Smoke Eaters upended the Vernon Vipers 2-1 in B.C. Hockey League action Friday night at Wesbild Centre.

Vernon came out flying in the opening 10 minutes, scoring at 2:17 on a beautiful solo effort by TJ Dumonceaux. However, the Snakes faltered after that, allowing Trail back into the game early in the third period on a goal by Brent Baltus.

Knowler buried the rebound on an odd-man rush in OT, assisted by Braden Pears and Shane Poulsen.

The Vipers entertain the Surrey Eagles Saturday night at Wesbild.

Check out Sunday sports in the Morning Star for a full recap of Friday's action.
