It was a great weekend to be wearing green and white.

The Vernon Vortex Speed Skating team competed at the Edmonton Fall Classic, and like their cohorts in green and white from Saskatchewan, they came away with some outstanding performances.

Laura Hall finished third overall in the Open Class competition, breaking two club records in the process. Daniel Hall was second overall in the 12-year-old division despite a hard crash in his best event, the 1,500 metres. Daniel also established two Vortex records in the 1,500-m secondary final and the 400-m event along with a personal best time in the 200-m where he displayed impressive agility in a rare come-from-behind win in a short sprint distance.

Nate Benn recovered from a nasty crash in his strongest event, the 200-m, to establish a club record with a gutsy performance in the 1,500-m. Benn also set records in the 400-m and the 200-m secondary final.

Laura Hall is in Calgary this weekend at the CanAm International meet where she will represent Vernon against skaters from around the world while the rest of the team prepares for the Ice Jam event in Salmon Arm the following weekend.

The Vortex carries sponsorshis from: Sproing Creative, Manulife Financial, Mackenzie Financial, Interior Savings, and Tolko. For information on how to join this dynamic team, check their website at www.vernonspeedskatingclub.com.
