With regular keeper Yogi Kongsdorf on injured reserve, the Silver Stars looked to towering fullback for help in net Thursday night.

Fowler, an Armstrong product, recorded several stellar saves as the Stars smashed Kal Tire 6-0 in a Vernon derby match in the Capri Insurance Men’s 55+ Soccer League at Marshall Field #1.

The Stars (10-4-1) got two goals from roadrunner Mark Wasylyk and singles from Mahmoud Abdel-Kader, Brian Eso, Steve McCourt, Kenny Rath and John Garner.

It was 3-0 at the half with McCourt converting on a nifty 35-yard lob that caught keeper Pete (The Heat) Richter off his line.

Kal Tire (4-12) lacked finish on a handful of Grade A scoring chances.

In a derby game in the Peach City, Penticton TC United shaded the Summerland Rockets 3-2 at Kings Park.

Peter Toth, on a penalty shot, Tony Munoz, on a corker from a sharp angle, and Gord McLaren, on a tap-in, handled the 9-8-1 Penticton offence.

Andy Burt nodded in the opening goal and added a late tally for Summerland (10-8).

Meanwhile, Ram Environmental grounded Vernon Kal Tire 1-0 in Kelowna Tree Brewing Men’s 35+ Soccer League play Thursday under the lights at Beasley Park in Lake Country.

Play went both ways most of the night until a ball popped to the foot of a Ram forward who had an open net as keeper Mark Zaino was out of the net.

Injury-riddled Kal Tire pushed at the end but failed to get a bounce as they dipped to 3-12-2. The Ram crew improved to 7-7-2.

Kal Tire takes on the Salmon Arm Beer Badgers next Thursday, 6 p.m., at MacDonald Park.

Sir Winston’s Pub Attack grounded Collaborate Wellness 4-1 in women’s second division play at Marshall Field.

Lauren Wishart ran miles and scored for the Wellness crew, whose Dairy Queen Lady of the Match was Brianna Keating Martyn for constant hustle down the flank.

Carol-Ann Bourdon unleashed several wicked shots for Wellness, while Mel Pierocky delivered some amazing runs and supported the midfield and defence all night. Ariel Pyett and Olivia Anderson kept the heat down in the back end, while Brea Ververda supplied some killer runs and a few close calls.
