North Okanagan students race to the finish lines

Cross country runs last week and April 24, avoid DND ground area on Commonage Road

Hundreds of little legs raced through the grassy fields at DND grounds for the start of cross country running season.

Each of the Vernon School District’s elementary schools are taking part in the event, which saw the first run take place April 17 and will resume again Wednesday, April 24.

The SD22 Elementary Athletics Association had “a fantastic turn out to the first cross-country run of the year,” according to superintendent Christine Perkins.

More than 1,400 students participated.

But with that many kids, plus their parents, grandparents and siblings watching, it makes for a busy area.

The DND grounds are packed with people and cars filling the parking lots and up and down Commonage Road.

It’s a good area to avoid Wednesday afternoon.
