The Irving K. Barber B.C. Scholarship Society has granted funds to five local students to support their post-secondary studies.
The recipients include Amanda Neufeld from Lumby, and Bernadine Brown, Jennifer Leason, Danielle Saddleman and Taryn Schroeder, from Vernon.
A total of $459,000 is going to 167 aboriginal students in B.C.
Awards of between $1,000 and $5,500 each are issued to students through a competitive process every year.
“These awards are an investment in the skills and talents of B.C.’s aboriginal students,” said Hugh Gordon, society chairperson.
“They will help to open doors to B.C.’s educational system for aboriginal people in all regions of the province.”
