Armstrong Regional Cooperative (ARC) dribbled a little water out of its cash bucket over a local garden idea.
ARC has donated $1,000 to Armstrong Elementary School's garden project which aims to create a lasting space for students and the Armstrong community.
"For more than 100 years, Armstrong Elementary has educated children in the community and this year, the school and its parent committee are launching a School Garden Project...," said ARC marketing and community relations manager Jason Keis.
"The garden will be a place to explore food origins, learn gardening skills, and enjoy peace in nature. The Armstrong Regional Co-op is proud to support this local project through our Co-op Community Support Fund."
The brick school's large garden project plans to produce food for the school's food programs, while sprouting learning experiences for the students who will be the garden's caretakers.
The $50,000 project will see 12 raised garden beds built on the schoolyard.
The school has 12 classes and once the garden beds are built, each class will be responsible for planning, planting, weeding and caring for one of the 12 beds.
While Armstrong is an agricultural community, AES principal Val Edgell said many young students don't know much about growing and harvesting food, and the school garden program will aim to change that.
