Armstrong’s annual Christmas Light Up celebrations will be split into two events this year.

The light-up itself will move back to December, and will be held on Friday, Dec. 1. A daytime Home For the Holidays event will take place Saturday, Dec. 9.

“We’re excited about these positive changes,” said Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce executive director Patti Noonan.

One tradition that remains is Armstrong school kids decorating the large tree by the Station Diner at Okanagan Street and Pleasant Valley Boulevard on Dec. 1.

That night, events will kick off at 5:30 p.m. and Santa Claus is expected to flip the switch for the light-up around 6 p.m.

There will also be entertainment throughout the evening. There is no parade this year, nor is there a late-night shopping event.

The Home For the Holidays event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature daytime shopping with incentives at a number of local businesses, food tasting and wagon rides.

“This event will link both parts of our businesses’ community together and tie into event happening that weekend,” said Noonan. “There will be all sorts of fun.”

Details on both events can be found at the chamber’s website, www.aschamber.com.
