Vernon Women in Business is seeking nominations for the 2016 Woman of the Year.

This award honours women in the community who display leadership in business, volunteering and the community.

“For the last 29 years, Women in Business has been proud to present this award to deserving women and are looking to the community to put forward nominations,” said Shannon MacNeill, event chairperson.

Nominations will be accepted until March 18 and nomination forms, criteria and the application can be found at or by contacting Shannon MacNeill at

All of the nominees will be honoured and the award will be announced and presented during a gala event at the Prestige Hotel on May 12.

“This event is a one of a kind opportunity to celebrate the impact women have on our business and greater community,” said MacNeill. “Vernon Women in Business takes great pride in ensuring that each nominee receives the praise and accolades they deserve.”

In 2015, the award honoured Anne McMeeking–Walsh, a wife, mother, stepmother, teacher and support to anyone in need. McMeeking–Walsh is a true champion of families and has demonstrated that commitment through a multitude of ways.

She was presented with the award at the gala event held in May of 2015 at the Prestige Inn.

Along with being honoured with the title, the 2016 Woman of the Year recipient will receive a beautiful pearl necklace set donated by Sweet Smiles Society. As a former Woman of the Year award recipient, and founder of the Sweet Smiles Society, Barrita Durward provided the fresh water pearl set in support of this important award.

Other event sponsors include Keylight photography, Community Futures, By Inspired Design, Telus and the Prestige Hotel.
