Target is coming to town a little earlier than expected, for a one-day end-of-summer celebration.
The major U.S. retailer, which is opening in spring 2013 in Vernon, is throwing a Bullseye Beach party at Kin Beach Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“Part of what we’re doing before the doors open is having different events,” said Lisa Gibson, Target communications. “We wanted to surprise and delight our future guests.”
Sections of Kin Beach will be transformed into Target Bullseye Beach, providing endless fun and numerous giveaways (including some Target branded products).
There will be kids activities, beach volleyball, ringtoss, sandcastle competitions and more, or just sit back and relax with an ice cream or juice in Target’s shaded lounge or Bullseye beach shop.
“There will be something for everyone at Target Bullseye Beach,” said Gibson.
“And this is a great way for us to get to know the people of Vernon.”
There will also be a chance for those interested in working at the new store, which will employ between 150 to 200 people, to talk to representatives.
Hiring of team leaders (managers) has already taken place and hourly positions will be looked at later this year.
Target is opening in the current Zellers store at the Village Green Centre in the spring of 2013.
Zellers is closing in November and the local site will be closed for six to nine months for $10 million in renovations.
“We’ll be starting construction later this year,” said Gibson, adding that renovations will transform the location into a true Target experience.
The move to Vernon is just one of Target’s first Canadian openings.
