Parents who have lost a child have a place to connect with others reeling from the same grief.
The Compassionate Friends of Canada (TCF) Vernon Chapter invites all bereaved parents, their families and friends to join them in honour of children at the WorldWide Candle Lighting Service of remembrance and hope.
The event takes place locally at Paddlewheel Hall (7801 Okanagan Landing Road) on Sunday, Dec. 8. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Service begins at 6:15 and candles are lit at 7.
Candles will be provided and can be taken home to light in remembrance over the holidays.
"We will be joining with tens of thousands of TCF members, relatives and supporters around the world who start lighting their candles in New Zealand at 7 p.m. their local time," said chapter leader Cliona Curran. "The light then continues around the world for 24 hours."
Light refreshments will be provided, and parents are encouraged to bring something to share that their child/children might have enjoyed (a favourite dish, snack or treat).
"This is an excellent opportunity to talk with other bereaved parents in an informal way," said Curran.
Parents are encouraged to bring a picture of their child/children to be placed on the table of remembrance.
If anyone has a poem or writing they would like to read or have read, you are welcome to do so.
If you would like to send pictures of your child/children for the slideshow, email then to cliona.sleddogs@gmail.com.
"We encourage you to come and join this very special service of remembrance and hope."
